Request to Provide Evaluated Answer Sheets to Students and Introduce Greater Transparency in Examination Assessment

OUTWARD NO :  SAJAG MANCH / EDUCATION TRANSPARENCY /15             Dt 29/05/2026

To,

Hon.The Hon’ble Minister of Education,

Government of India

Subject: Request to Provide Evaluated Answer Sheets to Students and Introduce Greater Transparency in Examination Assessment

Respected Sir,

We respectfully submit this representation regarding the urgent need for greater transparency and accountability in the examination evaluation system across India.

Recent incidents related to discrepancies in marks, evaluation concerns, and answer-sheet mismatches during rechecking, and public concerns arising from examination controversies have deeply affected the trust of students and parents in the education system.

Students spend an entire academic year preparing for examinations. Their marks determine admissions, career opportunities, and future academic pathways. Even minor human errors in evaluation or data entry can significantly affect a student's future.

Even when answer sheets are checked correctly, mistakes may happen during mark entry, digitization, tabulation, or system uploading. Therefore, transparency must not end with evaluation; it must extend to the student's right to verify.

We therefore request the following:

1.    Students of Classes 10 and 12 should be provided original copies of their evaluated answer sheets after declaration of results.

2.    Certified scanned copies of checked answer sheets should be  kept with concerned boards for future records .

3.    A transparent digital mechanism should be created for evaluation tracking and mark-entry verification.

4.    In the long term, the policy of providing evaluated papers may be extended progressively to other academic levels as well.

This reform will:

  • improve transparency in assessment,
  • increase examiner accountability,
  • reduce disputes and re-evaluation burden,
  • improve trust among students and parents,
  • strengthen credibility of the education system.

Education must not only be fair but it must also appear fair to every student.

Students have a moral and academic right to see how their answers were evaluated.

We request the Ministry of Education and CBSE to take an early policy decision in this matter in the interest of transparency, accountability, and public confidence.

Yours faithfully,

 SUDHIR L DANI
